A Reflective Clay Workshop: Starting Over

About this Workshop

We all experience moments of beginning again - whether moving across countries, cities, or homes, navigating the end of a relationship, or shifting within our inner worlds. “Starting Over” isn’t only about physical change; it’s about leaving something behind, finding new ground, and learning how to belong again.

In this gentle, hands-on clay workshop, we’ll explore these themes through touch and form. There’s no expectation of perfection, the most important is that you create something meaningful to you.

Why Join?

This session is for anyone curious about belonging, memory, and expressing emotions through making. No prior experience with clay is needed; just bring your curiosity.

Together, we’ll create a small, supportive community for two hours. You’ll take home a unique handmade sculpture as a personal memento. Many participants describe these sessions as tender, grounding, and unexpectedly healing.

What to Expect in the Session (2 hours)

First 15 minutes — Welcome & gentle conversation:

We’ll begin with a short introduction to the theme. You’ll be invited to explore the creative prompts prepared for the session and an emotion wheel to help guide your making.

Next 1 hour 15 minutes — Making with clay:

You’ll work with white air-dry clay, it’s soft, clean, non-toxic, and easy to shape with your hands. I’ll show a couple of simple ways to form and join clay, then you’re free to create at your own pace. This is an unhurried making time with guidance available if you need it.

You’ll be able to take your piece home with you. No kiln firing is needed as the clay dries naturally within a couple of days and will be ready to paint if you wish!

Final 15–30 minutes — Sharing (optional):

We’ll gather to look at what everyone has made. You’re welcome to share the story behind your piece, the feeling that guided it, or simply show it without explanation.

Community Rules

To keep this space thoughtful and supportive for everyone:

  • No judgement, comparison, or expectation of artistic skill

  • Sharing is always optional; listening is equally valuable

  • We speak from our own experience and avoid generalising about others

  • We don’t offer advice or suggestions unless someone asks for it

  • You’re absolutely free to step out or pause at any time
